Lee Su-hyun (이수현), a member of the South Korean sibling duo AKMU, recently appeared on the YouTube channel "Life 84." During the episode, she humorously revealed that her older brother, Lee Chan-hyuk (이찬혁), had allegedly "scammed her out of copyrights" when she was a teenager, sharing amusing behind-the-scenes stories about their musical collaboration that entertained viewers.
In the video released on January 30, host Kian84 visited the AKMU siblings' home. At his request, Lee Su-hyun sat at the piano and played the intro melody to "Ice" (얼음들), a track from AKMU's debut album.
She laughed, "I actually wrote this intro." Lee Su-hyun then revealed that after her brother heard it, he simply said, "This is good." To her surprise, he later incorporated the melody directly into "Ice," but all songwriting and composing credits for the track were attributed solely to Lee Chan-hyuk.
She couldn't help but exclaim, "I was scammed!" Lee Su-hyun explained that she was only 14 years old at the time and had no concept of copyright, so she didn't understand the importance of creative attribution. She chuckled, "I didn't understand copyright at all back then, so I just got taken advantage of." She added that even now, she jokingly tells her brother, "You're a con artist."
Beyond sharing creative anecdotes, Lee Su-hyun also revealed that the siblings jointly operate a company called "Inspiration Spring" (영감의 샘터), which currently has 10 employees. Her brother, Lee Chan-hyuk, is responsible for almost all aspects of the company's operations.
When asked if her brother suggested starting the company, Lee Su-hyun admitted, "That's right. My brother has always been the leader. Whether it's lyrics, composition, or various details, he handles almost everything."
She also shared that her brother's exceptional musical talent once made her lose confidence in her own songwriting, leading her to stop writing songs for a period. However, she has recently resumed composing and mentioned that her brother encouraged her, saying, "Someone as talented as you shouldn't be overlooked."
After hearing about the siblings' dynamic, Kian84 couldn't help but remark, "There really aren't many brothers like that." Lee Su-hyun responded with a laugh, "That's true, but I'm also a great sister." Their playful interaction once again showcased their deep bond.
