"D.P.2" reveals that Son Suk-ku becomes too popular, overshadowing Jung Hae-in's part! The director spills the truth about the hidden secrets in season 2!
The Netflix original series "D.P2" became an immediate global sensation after the first season aired in 2021. Not only was it widely beloved by audiences, but the popularity of the main actors also soared, generating a great deal of discussion.

Director Han Jun-hee recently spoke to Korean media in an interview, where he not only shared his filming experiences, but also addressed the real reason behind the reduced screen time of main actors Jung Hae-in and Koo Kyo-hwan, and the increased role of Son Suk-ku.
In fact, when the first season was released in 2021, it gained much popularity for its realistic portrayal and sharp depiction of the issues within the Korean military. However, unexpectedly, it stirred up a huge storm in South Korean society. This also led the Ministry of National Defense to urgently clarify that "the TV drama is different from reality", which became a hot topic.
When talking about the thoughts on the second season of "D.P", the director expressed that it's been 3-4 years since the start of the first season with the crew and actors. Although they often worried whether they could bring everyone a better work, they felt a bit reluctant after finishing the shooting.
However, faced with audience comments suggesting that Jung Hae-in and Koo Kyo-hwan had less screen time in the second season compared to the first, causing disappointment, the director admitted this was indeed the case. Nevertheless, considering that in the first season the deserter shot himself in the face, it is also worth considering whether the two members of the D.P team could immediately overcome their trauma and continue their duties from an objective perspective.
The director also explained that the reason why one of the episodes in the second season features Im Ji-sup, played by Son Suk-ku, as the lead is because "As the story of the army headquarters continued to unfold, conflicts inevitably arose. So, I believe that the final spark should be ignited by Joon-ho,Ho-yeol, FBeom-gu, and Ji-sup, who is an executive, and thus created the plot structure for Episodes 11-12."
Some netizens think that Son Suk-ku, who got a big hit with the TV drama "My Liberation Notes," has significantly grown his role in the drama due to his popularity. The director smiled bitterly at this and said, "It's not true. Son Suk-ku is really popular, indeed, but the script for the second season of 'D.P' had already come out before 'My Liberation Notes' was aired. Moreover, the shooting of 'My Liberation Notes' started a few days later, so there is no correlation at all."
