Former CNBLUE Member Lee Jong-hyun Resurfaces After 8 Years, Shares New Life Away From Spotlight
Former CNBLUE member Lee Jong-hyun (이종현), who stepped away from the entertainment industry years ago following a series of controversies including South Korea's 'Burning Sun' scandal, recently updated his social media account. He shared glimpses of his life out of the spotlight, igniting widespread discussion among Korean netizens. His reappearance has also brought renewed attention to the controversies he faced in 2019, particularly his involvement in the illegal sex video scandal with Jung Joon-young (정준영) and others.

Lee Jong-hyun debuted as a member of CNBLUE in 2010, gaining popularity with hits like "I'm a Loner" and "Love Light." He later expanded his career into acting, appearing in dramas such as SBS's A Gentleman's Dignity, KBS 2TV's Girls' Generation 1979, and OCN's That Man Oh Soo, pursuing both singing and acting careers.
However, in the spring of 2019, while serving in the military, Lee Jong-hyun became embroiled in the 'Burning Sun' scandal, which rocked the Korean entertainment industry. He was revealed to be a member of a chat group involving Jung Joon-young and others, where illegal sex videos were shared. Reports indicated that he received sex-related videos through both group and one-on-one chats with Jung Joon-young, and his messages objectified women, with phrases like, "I XXXXed with those girls OO yesterday," "Give me women quickly," and "Are there no young and pretty Xs?" The leaked conversations sparked public outrage and severely damaged his public image. Lee Jong-hyun issued an apology at the time, stating, "I am sorry for causing harm to the members," before announcing his withdrawal from CNBLUE and suspending all entertainment activities.

At the time, netizens also recirculated past footage allegedly showing Lee Jong-hyun engaging in inappropriate physical contact with female idols. During an FNC family concert, he was accused of touching AOA member Hyejeong's (혜정) chest, prompting her to push him away. Additionally, during another concert, he reportedly approached Girls' Generation member YoonA (윤아) and appeared to reach for her hip. YoonA immediately clutched her skirt and turned to look back, her expression and reaction drawing significant discussion online.

Furthermore, Lee Jong-hyun was previously fined by a court for allegedly engaging in stock trading using undisclosed information provided by a former agency executive. Unexpectedly, in August of the same year, he faced renewed criticism after it was revealed he had sent sexually suggestive messages, such as "Your belly fat is so cute," to streamer Park Min-jung (박민정). These consecutive controversies plunged Lee Jong-hyun's entertainment career into a slump, ultimately leading to his departure from CNBLUE and gradual fading from the entertainment scene.
Eight years later, Lee Jong-hyun suddenly reactivated his personal social media account yesterday (Aug. 10). He posted a lengthy message and shared multiple recent photos, drawing public attention back to the former idol.

Lee Jong-hyun began his post by writing, "This is Lee Jong-hyun. This account has been empty for 8 years." He revealed that his account had been hacked and he is currently in the process of requesting changes to his account ID and profile. After years out of the public eye, he shared a relatively comprehensive update on his life since leaving the entertainment industry.
The photos he shared show Lee Jong-hyun now as an ordinary office worker, diligently working in front of a laptop. His desk is adorned with cosmetic samples and product packaging, suggesting he is busy preparing for work meetings. He also posted photos with colleagues and scenes from his daily life, such as gazing at the Han River and enjoying Seoul's night view, a stark contrast to his former identity as a stage performer.

Lee Jong-hyun admitted that he "lived with his back to the world for several years" but later decided to learn a new profession to start over. He revealed that he has been working in beauty marketing for the past eight years, gradually finding interest in the field and now working professionally in it. "Meetings, personally unboxing products, and thinking about how to make things better – this is my daily life recently," Lee Jong-hyun described his current routine.
He also reflected that after living the life of an office worker, leaving home in the morning and returning at night, he truly understood that "working and living a normal life is not easy." He expressed deep admiration for all office workers who strive daily, calling them "truly amazing."
Lee Jong-hyun concluded by stating his desire to no longer live as an entertainer but to interact and live with more people "as an ordinary person, Lee Jong-hyun."
After an 8-year hiatus, Lee Jong-hyun has reappeared, not to share any entertainment activities, but to reveal his life as an ordinary office worker. While he has not disclosed any plans to return to the entertainment industry, this sudden social media update has once again made his recent whereabouts a focal point of discussion among Korean netizens.
