Former NCT Member Mark Lee Embraces 'Kids Pop' and Dad Life After SM Entertainment Departure
After departing from SM Entertainment, Lee Mark (이마크), formerly of NCT, began to re-evaluate his musical journey. Recently, he unveiled a new life goal, setting his sights on "Kids Pop" (children's popular music) and stating his desire to show the world that "goodness can also be cool" through music. Away from the spotlight, he now leads a quiet, simple life, spending time with friends and their children, and even personally picking up kindergarteners, a stark contrast to his former idol image on stage.
On the 14th, Lee uploaded a video titled "My Story So Far, and Future Dreams" to his personal YouTube channel, "Mark Lee." In the video, he shared insights into his current life and his reflections and plans for his musical direction after his contract with SM Entertainment concluded. He was seen shopping and practicing performances with his manager and their children, while also discussing his true aspirations post-SM.
Lee confessed that after leaving SM, he began to ponder what legacy he truly wanted to leave in music. Even setting aside practical concerns like security and finances, one goal remained that he was determined to achieve. He explained that in the past, he always aimed to "do everything well and be the best," but later started questioning: "What exactly is the standard for 'best'? What is the best thing I can leave to this world in my lifetime?"
After much contemplation, he decided to dedicate all his effort and focus to a dream he genuinely believed in. The key to finding this new direction came from his manager, with whom he currently lives.
Lee revealed that his manager once asked him, "What do you consider 'cool'?" This question prompted him to re-examine his definition of "coolness," ultimately leading to a new answer: "I think this time in my life, I should live by the standard of 'Good.'"
