Former AOA Member Kwon Mina Shares Barefaced Selfies, Fans Express Concern Over Weight Loss After Cosmetic Procedure Injury

Kwon Mina (권민아), a former member of South Korean girl group AOA and now an actress, recently posted a series of barefaced selfies on social media. While many praised her fair, radiant complexion and innocent demeanor, her visibly thinner appearance sparked concern among fans, who urged her to take care of her health. This comes after she suffered second-degree facial burns from a cosmetic procedure earlier this year, an incident that nearly disfigured her.

On November 20, Kwon posted several selfies on Instagram, writing, “Finally took off my makeup, trying to act cute.” The photos showed her with long black hair, wearing a white sleeveless top, and appearing almost entirely barefaced, exuding a natural and fresh aura.

In the images, Kwon’s skin remained fair and clear, and the burn marks from her medical accident had noticeably faded, indicating significant recovery. However, compared to recent lifestyle photos she had shared, she appeared much thinner in these new pictures. Her jawline was more defined, and her cheeks seemed slightly sunken, drawing public attention to her overall complexion and physique.

Following the release of the photos, many fans expressed their concern, commenting, “You’ve lost too much weight,” “I hope you take good care of your body,” and “Health is the most important thing.” Others offered encouragement, wishing her a swift return to full health.

In January of this year, Kwon revealed that she had suffered a medical accident during a 600-shot Shurink Universe ultrasound lifting procedure, resulting in second-degree facial burns and severe blistering. This incident brought her entertainment career to a complete halt, with all scheduled filming canceled. She disclosed that doctors initially assessed her injuries, suggesting a skin graft might be necessary, or at least two years of treatment for full recovery. While her condition has significantly improved, scars remain, and she anticipates another year of ongoing treatment.

Kwon stated that after the accident, she submitted hospital and dermatology clinic diagnoses to the clinic. Initially, the clinic agreed to compensate her 20 million Korean won (approximately $15,000 USD), which included 9.2 million Korean won for lost filming income and psychiatric treatment fees until March. However, she accused the clinic of a drastic change in attitude after the initial compensation, refusing to cover medical expenses incurred after March and leaving her to bear the substantial ongoing treatment costs alone. With her work completely halted and income interrupted, she estimated her total losses to be close to 100 million Korean won.

Unable to accept the clinic's subsequent handling of the situation, Kwon repeatedly negotiated with them, hoping they would continue to take responsibility. Instead, she claims she was accused of intimidation. She revealed that she has now appointed a lawyer to handle the matter and does not rule out pursuing legal action to protect her rights. She expressed her frustration, stating, “At least the director can continue to run the clinic, but my life now consists only of the psychiatrist, dermatologist, and home.” Her words resonated deeply with many sympathetic fans.
