According to foreign media reports, Mina was conducting a TikTok livestream from her residence in Hangangno-dong, Seoul, when police were notified and arrived at the scene, subsequently interrupting the broadcast. As news of the incident spread, many fans expressed their shock and sorrow in comments.

On August 11, Mina's Instagram account posted an unexpected story update, featuring a photo of flowers and a lengthy message. The content confirmed it was published by Mina's family, who revealed they had brought their daughter back to Japan on August 9, which also happened to be her 26th birthday.

The family wrote, "We are Mina's family, and we are deeply sorry for causing everyone worry and sadness." They stated that the family had planned to celebrate Mina's birthday together, but were now unable to fulfill that promise, causing them immense heartache.
