South Korean girl group RESCENE (리센느) recently shot to unexpected fame thanks to the highly addictive meme "Geoje YAHO" (거제 야호). This not only boosted their public recognition but also saw their debut track achieve a chart resurgence, climbing back onto Korean music charts. They were even appointed as city promotional ambassadors, making them one of the most inspiring comeback stories in the recent K-pop scene.
The members recently appeared on the variety show “Amazing Saturday” (놀라운 토요일), openly discussing the changes in their lives since gaining popularity. Surprisingly, their primary indicator of rising fame wasn't a surge in fans, but rather the freedom to eat whatever they desired. Woni (원이) humorously revealed, “Now, we can eat beef regardless of the price or cut!” a comment that sparked considerable discussion.
The latest episode of tvN’s “Amazing Saturday,” aired on June 15, featured RESCENE members Woni, Liv (리브), and Zena (제나) as guests. During the show, host Boom (붐) introduced RESCENE as “the trend of trends” and noted their busy recent schedules.
When asked if they had noticeably felt their popularity increase, Woni excitedly responded, “Right now, at this very moment, I truly feel it. Because the seniors sitting next to me are all incredibly accomplished people.” She expressed her delight at being able to appear on “Amazing Saturday.” Hearing this, rapper Nucksal (넉살) praised her, remarking that possessing both “popularity and humility” simultaneously is a rare quality.
However, the true catalyst that made Woni deeply feel her newfound fame came from an unexpected change at the dining table. She disclosed, “Recently, I can eat whatever I want, regardless of the price or cut of beef.” She explained that in the past, their meal choices were restricted, but now, their company CEO directly tells them not to worry about the cost and to “order whatever you want to eat.”
This revelation surprised the other guests, as it highlighted a significant shift in RESCENE members’ dining privileges from their debut days to their current status.
Boom seized the opportunity to ask Taeyeon (태연) of Girls’ Generation (소녀시대), who also rose to the top from a girl group, if she experienced similar changes in her diet during her early career. Taeyeon recalled, “At first, we ate kimbap.” Shin Dong-yup (신동엽) empathized, sharing that when he first started working, he also opted for cheaper, foil-wrapped kimbap.
RESCENE members’ diets were also quite challenging during their debut. Zena revealed that she mainly ate roasted eggs, while Liv stated that she often relied on konjac jelly to stave off hunger.
Now, their living conditions are markedly different. Liv’s face lit up with a satisfied smile when she mentioned being able to freely eat beef, prompting everyone to joke that even the dining table knows when you’ve “made it.”
Beyond dining, Woni also shared how the group’s popularity has even affected her family. She previously referred to herself as “Deok-yeon’s daughter” in YouTube content, using her mother’s name. Unexpectedly, this introduction led to her mother also gaining attention. Woni laughed, saying, “They sent me to become an idol, but in the end, my mom became the celebrity.”
She revealed that her mother is now recognized by strangers wherever she goes, with even “chance encounter sightings” being reported. Even more comically, her mother had promised not to disclose her daughter’s identity to others, but even details like her visit to a dermatology clinic eventually got out, causing a burst of laughter on set.
