Red Velvet's Seulgi Breaks Down in Tears During Concert, Fans Speculate Reason

South Korean girl group Red Velvet recently made a comeback with their new mini-album, “Velvet Summer,” their first new release in two years. To celebrate their 12th anniversary, the five members held three fan concerts, revisiting classic songs and performing new tracks. However, member Kang Seul-gi (강슬기) was seen shedding tears multiple times during the performances, drawing concern from fans.

While performing the ballad “Candy,” Kang became overwhelmed with emotion and began to cry uncontrollably. Kim Ye-rim (김예림), known professionally as Yeri, standing nearby, immediately embraced her and helped her continue the performance. Videos of the moment quickly went viral on social media, with many fans expressing their heartbreak.

Beyond “Candy,” Kang cried multiple times throughout the concert. Her eyes welled up when fellow member Son Seung-wan (손승완), known professionally as Wendy, expressed her gratitude, and she choked up while delivering her own message to fans, struggling to speak through tears. Later, during the performance of “Night Drive,” she remained visibly upset. Even after attempting to compose herself during a costume change, she broke down again when Yeri looked at her, covering her face and weeping.

Many fans believe Kang’s emotional state is linked to a significant personal loss she experienced this year. In June, her beloved cousin, Soojin, passed away suddenly, a tragedy that shocked many fans. Despite her grief, Kang continued with her schedule, dedicating herself to Red Velvet's comeback and concert preparations.
