SEVENTEEN's Boo Seungkwan Addresses Fan Scams Involving Former Friend, Warns Against Imposters
SEVENTEEN member Boo Seungkwan (부승관) recently opened up during a live broadcast about a regrettable past incident. He revealed that a former friend from Jeju Island allegedly used their connection to cause financial losses for some fans. As a result, Seungkwan has not only cut off contact with the individual but also personally urged fans to be vigilant to prevent further deception.
The issue originated when Seungkwan, serving as a Jeju Island ambassador, filmed a homecoming vlog that included a visit to a barbecue restaurant owned by a long-time friend. After the video's release, many CARATs (SEVENTEEN's fandom) traveled to the restaurant. However, observant fans later noticed the vlog had been quietly removed, sparking speculation.
Seungkwan recently explained the reason for the first time during a live stream. He stated that his initial intention was purely to support his friend's business by filming the video. He never expected the video to attract so many fans, only for an unacceptable situation to arise afterward.
While Seungkwan did not disclose the friend's specific actions or the restaurant's name, he admitted, "Later, things happened that hurt fans, and I couldn't accept that. So, I am no longer in contact with that friend." He also encouraged any fans who suffered losses due to this incident to contact his agency for assistance.
Furthermore, Seungkwan specifically debunked a widely circulated "heartwarming story" online. Netizens claimed that Seungkwan had pre-paid for meals at his friend's barbecue restaurant, intending for fans to eat for free. Seungkwan firmly denied this, stating, "I have never done such a thing, nor have I ever pre-paid for any meals."
He confessed that he had wanted to clarify the situation much earlier but hesitated, unsure if he should address it personally, fearing it might lead to attacks on the restaurant. However, seeing the false information spread, he decided to personally reveal the truth.
