TWICE's Nayeon dragged into a debt dispute accused of owing over 600 million in 12 years! Court ruling revealed!

Caridee小編9/19/2023 1 min read

Mr. A, a former boyfriend of Nayeon's mother from the girl group TWICE, filed a lawsuit in court, claiming that he had supported Nayeon with more than 600 million Korean won over 12 years. He demanded repayment from Nayeon but ultimately lost the case in the trial.

According to legal insiders, Mr. A has filed a loan lawsuit against Na Lan and her mother at the Eastern District Court of Seoul. While the court acknowledged that Mr. A transferred more than 500 million Korean Won to Na Lan over 12 years, it did not consider there to be enough evidence to establish it as a loan.

According to the judgment, Mr. A had remitted 5,359,082,750 Won to Nayeon from August 2004 to June 2016 over a period of 12 years. In addition, Nayeon and her mother used a credit card under Mr. A's name to charge 1,156,120,930 Won from March 2009 to February 2015, over six years. Nayeon later made her debut as a member of TWICE in October 2015.

In January of last year, Mr. A filed a lawsuit against Nayeon and her mother, "At the request of Nayeon's mother, I lent her living expenses. She promised to repay me once Nayeon debuted as a singer, but Nayeon broke the agreement." Two of Mr. A's friends also testified, "Mr. A said that Nayeon would repay him after her debut."

Although the court acknowledged that Mr. A has provided 600 million KRW to Nayeon during the past 12 years, it believes, "There's no evidence to prove that this is a loan. Given the frequency, duration, amount, and process of the monetary transactions, it's hard to recognize a promise of repayment between Mr. A and Nayeon. Mr. A and Nayeon's mother were in a romantic relationship at the time, it's impossible to determine this as a loan. From a nominal perspective, it looks like rent, phone bill, loan, tuition, etc., thus it can just be considered as everyday living expense support."

TWICE's Nayeon longs for a mealtime friend, and Jihyo shares the sentiment, feeling left out!

Lately, TWICE's Jihyo has been occupied with individual ventures related to her debut solo mini-album "ZONE," making appearances on various variety shows. On the 7th, TWICE's YouTube channel released a brief video featuring Jihyo and Nayeon in conversation, during which Nayeon disclosed her motivation for wanting to expand her circle of friends. In the short clip, Jihyo met Nayeon after finishing her performance of "Killin' Me Good". Seeing Jihyo, Nayeon encouraged her, saying "You worked hard during the event." Jihyo said, "We're on tour now and I'm having a bit of trouble adjusting to the time difference. I'm eating right now", she seemed all over the place after the event. Jihyo confessed, "Even though I slept for a while, I pretty much pulled an all-nighter, so I couldn't recharge." While everyone was eating and chatting together, Nayeon shared her thoughts, saying, "Lately, I've been giving a lot of thought to making new friends. You see, with the way things have been, if I have 3 or 4 friends, there's always someone who's abroad, someone who's busy with work, and someone who's on a vacation. So, there's no one available to have a meal with." In response, Jihyo said: "That's true. It's my day off on Tuesday, too. I haven't seen my friends in a long time... All my contacts are lost. No one is reachable, and I suddenly feel somewhat abandoned." She deeply empathized with Nayeon's situation. Shee encouraged and said, "I'm not saying I want to stop doing activities, but going solo is really exhausting, too exhausting," expressing the bitterness of being active alone. Netizens also shared supportive comments: "Jihyo, as TWICE's leader, has always been a pillar of strength for the members ❤ She even released a solo track this time. It must have been challenging, but she always wears a smile and never shows her fatigue. It's truly admirable. We hope she continues to lead TWICE with that radiant smile~^^"

The court also stated, "Mr. A insisted that he expected Nayeon to repay him after her debut, so it is hard to consider all the money paid as a loan. The statement from the witness did not directly come from Nayeon, but through Mr. A, this statement alone is insufficient to constitute a promise of repayment."

The court further noted, "Mr. A might have supporting them financially out of his desire for Nayeon's success. However, because there's no objective evidence such as an unpaid invoice, it cannot prove that it was a loan, so Mr. A lost the lawsuit." Additionally, JYP Entertainment, Nayeon's agency, has not made any official stance on this judgment, also Mr. A has not filed an appeal.

Editor: It's even related to Nayeon's mother! 🧐
