Choi Ye-na's 'No-Skin' Waterbomb Outfit Goes Viral, Praised as 'Super Sexy' by Korean Netizens

K氏鄉民8/9/2026 1 min read

Waterbomb, South Korea's signature summer music festival, is held annually, captivating audiences not only with its intense water battles but also with artists' stage outfits. These looks often become a hot topic, even coining terms like 'Waterbomb Goddess' and 'Waterbomb God.' In the past, artists such as HyunA, Sunmi, Chungha, BLACKPINK members, and Kwon Eun-bi (권은비) have all sparked heated discussions with their sexy performances.

However, Choi Ye-na (최예나), a former member of the project girl group IZ*ONE and now a solo artist, took a different approach at this year's Waterbomb. Instead of embracing the festival's typical sexy aesthetic, she chose a 'no-skin' outfit, unexpectedly becoming the center of attention.

Instagram

Choi Ye-na appeared at 'Waterbomb Busan 2026' on August 8, engaging with the audience on stage. Behind-the-scenes footage released by organizers shows her full of energy even before her performance, interacting with the crowd using a water gun, creating an incredibly lively atmosphere.

Instagram

Her stage outfit was undoubtedly the most eye-catching element of the day. Unlike the common bikinis, crop tops, and shorts typically seen at Waterbomb, Choi Ye-na went against the grain, donning a form-fitting white jumpsuit that covered her from neck to ankle, revealing almost no skin.

Instagram

A closer look reveals blue and pink lines incorporated into the white jumpsuit, extending along her figure, creating a futuristic, almost racing suit-like aesthetic. She completed the look with white gloves, pink goggles-style sunglasses, and a high ponytail, making her overall appearance resemble a character straight out of a video game or anime, with incredibly high recognition.

Former Brave Girls Member Nam Yu-jeong to Perform at Waterbomb, Sparks Debate Over Song Choices

Former Brave Girls (now BBGIRLS) member Nam Yu-jeong will make her debut at South Korea's summer music festival 'Waterbomb,' but the announcement has sparked mixed reactions and questions about her setlist.

Waterbomb is often seen as a stage for female celebrities to showcase their figures, with artists' sexy outfits frequently becoming a focal point of discussion. Choi Ye-na's choice of a completely different route was a refreshing surprise. Despite revealing almost no skin, the form-fitting design still accentuated her figure. Combined with the vibrant colors and strong anime vibe, she stood out even more on stage.

Instagram

Choi Ye-na remained unfazed by the continuous water streams, confidently moving, singing, and dancing in her full-body suit, gloves, and sunglasses, presenting a visual effect entirely different from previous Waterbomb performances. Instead of competing on 'who showed more skin,' she opted to win with her unique conceptual styling.

Beyond her stage presence, Choi Ye-na maintained the same character concept in her interactions with official cameras. She frequently made cute cat-paw gestures towards the camera, flashing her signature sweet smile. The contrast between her cool, avant-garde outfit and adorable expressions was striking.

After the related photos and videos were released, they immediately sparked heated discussions among netizens. Many praised her for not following Waterbomb's typical sexy approach, finding her choice more distinctive.

Comments included: "Every time I see Waterbomb, everyone reveals a lot, but I actually find this more beautiful and unique," "It completely preserves Choi Ye-na's original image," "This concept really suits her," "Everyone else is showing skin, but she's going her own way, she really understands," and "Even though she's so covered up, wearing a racing suit makes her even sexier."

Some netizens also noticed that the outfit seemed to incorporate many anime and game elements, immediately associating it with Rei Ayanami from Neon Genesis Evangelion and D.Va from Overwatch. "It's a precise sniper shot for anime fans," one user commented, while another added, "It even echoes D.Va's setting as being from Busan, South Korea. So clever."

Fans further praised her, saying: "She's really good at doing these concepts," "Her company is really good at this," and "If this kind of styling isn't handled well, it can easily look messy, but she always pulls it off perfectly."

Choi Ye-na debuted as a member of IZ*ONE, and after the group's activities concluded, she transitioned to a solo career, continuously building her unique identity with a lively, unconventional musical style and distinct visuals. By choosing a personal 'anime-inspired racing suit' concept instead of the mainstream sexy route at 'Waterbomb Busan 2026,' she successfully stole the spotlight and once again proved that she can make her mark on the Waterbomb stage without revealing skin.
