On the 23rd, two Korean media outlets simultaneously reported that actors Park Gyu-young and Jo Yu-ri, a former member of IZ*ONE, are set to star in the second season of the popular Netflix drama 'Squid Game 2.' The reports specifically highlight Park Gye-eon's role as the female lead, generating buzz among internet users.
However, when other Korean media outlets reached out to Park Gyu-young's agency for confirmation, the company stated, 'We are currently unable to provide any comments. We seek for your understanding.' Jo Yu-ri's agency also maintained a cautious stance and stated that they were unable to provide any statements to the media.
The announcement of the 'Squid Game 2' cast on the 18th caused quite a stir. The revealed video showcased returning actors from the first season, including Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, and Wi Ha-joon, as well as newcomers for the second season, such as Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-na, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong Geun. Gong Yoo will make a special cameo appearance, similar to the first season.
The omission of female actors in the announcement of the main cast for the second season triggered discussions and raised concerns about diversity. The first season captivated audiences worldwide with talented actresses like Jung Ho-yeon, Kim Joo-ryoung, and Lee Yoo-mi, who garnered widespread love and appreciation.
"Squid Game" is a survival game with a staggering bet of 456 billion won. In order to survive, participants must give their all. Since its release in 2021, it has broken numerous records and created a frenzy both in South Korea and internationally.
On the other hand, Park Gyu-Young also stars in the Netflix series "Celebrity," which is set to premiere on the 30th. In the series, Park Gyu-Young portrays the lead character Seo A-Ri, who dives into the glamorous and fiercely competitive world of being an internet celebrity, where fame equals money.
Jo Yu-ri, on the other hand, started her acting career with the web drama "Mimicus" last year, and later made a notable special appearance in the TVING original drama "Work Later, Drink Now 2," leaving a deep impression on the viewers.
