A few months ago, the leader of South Korean supergroup BIGBANG, G-Dragon, expressed his anticipation for the new album on IG. However, yesterday, news suddenly broke that he was suspected of drug use, causing a huge shock to the fans.
The Incheon Police Department's Drug Crime Investigation Unit filed a case against G-Dragon on the 25th for alleged violation of drug-related laws. The police had previously received information from Mr. A, a room manager at a detained entertainment establishment in Gangnam, insinuating G-Dragon's drug use, and launched an investigation. Reportedly, the Gangnam G Club where Mr. A works is a members-only establishment with a basic table cost of more than 10 million Korean Won. Mr. A also revealed the fact that actor Lee Sun-kyun uses drugs.
As the related news was released, fans hoped that their idol was not using drugs. With earnest feelings, they left messages on G-Dragon's IG account saying "Please say it's not true." "Please say it's not you." "Hope it's a rumor" and other comments.
Especially a few months ago, G-Dragon stated that he was preparing a new album. When shooting the July issue cover for fashion magazine "ELLE," he expressed, "As a singer, G-Dragon has taken a long break, so I am working on it with an interesting and exciting mindset. I am looking forward to it myself. I want to communicate through music. Looking back, my previous songs all deliver my emotions. Music is the best way for me to understand people," revealing his passion for music.
Regarding this, fans of G-Dragon expressed their greater disappointment at the rumors of his marijuana use. "We waited years for his comeback! Is this a sign that he doesn't want to release an album?" "We're waiting for news about the album, not about drugs." "Didn't he say he was going to meet us?" The fans' angry comments continued non-stop.
Additionally, G-Dragon, who was investigated by the prosecutors in 2011 for suspected marijuana use, once explained that "I thought it was a cigarette when I smoked it while on tour in Japan". However, he had tested positive in a hair test, though it was his first offense and only a very small amount was detected, he was given a suspended sentence.
After 12 years, he is suspected of drug use again, and some fans say they "already knew". In May this year, G-Dragon showed up at Incheon airport to attend overseas activities. However, G-Dragon was always unsteady, and his body couldn't stop for a moment. Fans expressed, "His physical condition seems very unstable, please those around G-Dragon help him, as I heard it's difficult to quit on one's own."
In October last year, a short interview film of G-Dragon by the fashion magazine "ELLE" once again garnered attention. In the video, G-Dragon exhibited exaggerated postures, relentless hand gestures, and oscillating eye movements throughout the interview, and with his reticent tone and inability to answer questions, many people likened this behavior to the exaggerated expressions and recurring actions that are symptomatic of drug addicts, such as the frequently drug-using Yoo Ah-in. But G-Dragon's exclusive contract with YG Entertainment has expired, and regarding the drug suspicions of G-Dragon, YG Entertainment stated: "G-Dragon is no longer our artist, so it is difficult to confirm".
