[Living Together is Hard] Goo Hye Sun Shares Her True Feelings: 'My Home Feels Like It Has an Extra Mirror'

admin 1 min read

South Korean actress Goo Hye Sun recently appeared on MBN's program 'Kim Joo Ha’s Day & Night.' When asked if she was currently dating anyone, she immediately replied, "No." She also admitted that while she sometimes dates and sometimes doesn't, having to constantly consider her partner's reactions and adjust herself in a relationship is not easy for her.

Admits to Being Single: 'Adjusting Myself for Love is Difficult'

In the episode aired on July 18, Goo Hye Sun spoke about her relationship status, saying, "Sometimes I date, sometimes I don't. It's difficult to have to observe the other person's reactions and then adjust myself to match them."

Host Kim Joo Ha then shared that while she personally opposes marriage, she believes people should still date frequently, as stopping may make it easier to remain single. Goo Hye Sun agreed that relationships can still have value, but she brought up a very clear condition: everyone should eventually return to their own home.

Living Together is Like Having an Extra Mirror

Goo Hye Sun further explained that she feels most natural when completely alone; but as soon as another person is present, she starts to become aware of aspects of herself that she normally wouldn't need to hide. She gave an example: when living alone, it doesn't matter if she hasn't washed her hair or if she suddenly yells out of anger; but once living with someone, she is forced to see every side of herself through her partner's eyes.

She likened this state to having a permanent extra mirror in the house, constantly reflecting parts of herself she dislikes. She also mentioned that cohabitation can leave almost no space to temporarily step away, calm down, or simply exist without being observed.

Kim Joo Ha cautiously suggested that perhaps there might still be someone who could love her imperfect sides. However, Goo Hye Sun disagreed, responding, "I think the only person who can do that is myself."

Did Not Directly Mention Previous Marriage

Although Goo Hye Sun did not directly link these remarks to her past marriage, her candid explanation of why she finds relationships and cohabitation difficult has once again drawn attention to her highly publicized divorce. Goo Hye Sun married actor Ahn Jae Hyun in 2016, and the couple officially finalized their divorce in 2020 after a controversial and very public separation process.
