Woman Accuses Hwang Jung-min of Exploitation; Dispatch Reveals Suicide Threats, Cat Carcass Photos
South Korean actor Hwang Jung-min (황정민) is currently embroiled in a private life controversy, engaging in an ongoing public dispute with a woman identified as 'A,' who claims to have had a long-term relationship with him. Following a statement from Hwang's agency, Sam Company, accusing 'A' of stalking and harassment, 'A' responded on social media on May 30, alleging that Hwang had subjected her to "emotional, sexual, and labor exploitation." She stated that the full truth would be revealed in court. Concurrently, Korean media outlet Dispatch published an exposé detailing the timeline of events, revealing that 'A' had sent tens of thousands of messages, allegedly threatened self-harm, and even contacted Hwang Jung-min's underage son, further escalating the dispute.
Previously, Sam Company announced that it had filed a criminal complaint against 'A.' The court had also issued three temporary protective orders, including a restraining order, and imposed a summary fine of 3 million won (approximately $2,200 USD) on 'A.' However, 'A' has filed an objection, and the case is currently undergoing formal trial, with no final verdict yet. Additionally, her civil lawsuit against Hwang Jung-min, seeking 200 million won (approximately $146,000 USD) in damages, is still in its first trial.
'A' stated that she was initially just a fan of Hwang Jung-min until August 2023, when Hwang initiated contact, leading to their private interactions. She claims that Hwang invited her to co-develop a soju brand, prompting her to invest time in market research, brand design, and trademark investigations. She also wrote approximately 30 novels and essays for him, some of which included erotic content created at Hwang Jung-min's request.
She stated that they maintained contact for about two years, during which she believed they were jointly pursuing a business venture. However, Hwang Jung-min abruptly ceased cooperation and cut off communication. She emphasized that she merely wanted Hwang Jung-min to clarify "whether we are still continuing the collaboration," "how the labor I invested should be handled," and "how our relationship should conclude."
