South Korean girl group Kep1er member Choi Yu-jin (최유진) recently became a trending topic due to a single sentence. What began as a simple reply to a fan's question about a family member's wedding was mistranslated, leading to the interpretation that she herself would be getting married next year. The news quickly went viral, startling fans.
According to Korean media reports, Choi Yu-jin was interacting with fans on a fan communication platform when a fan asked her about her recent activities. She had previously shared family photos, which showed her in a hanbok and another family member in a white silk dress, prompting many fans to inquire about the situation.
One fan asked Choi Yu-jin about her younger brother's wedding, to which she replied, “The wedding is next year!” Unexpectedly, this sentence was translated by the platform as, “I'm getting married next year!” What was originally a simple family wedding announcement instantly turned into Choi Yu-jin herself announcing her own marriage.
Upon seeing the translation, some fans immediately screenshotted and shared it on social media, jokingly claiming that Choi Yu-jin had personally announced she would “get married in 2027.” The post garnered over a million views in less than a day, quickly sparking widespread discussion.
Some fans were genuinely shocked by the news, commenting, “I was really scared,” and “Wait, I actually thought it was true for a second!” Others, realizing the translation error, reminded fellow netizens: “It's her brother who's getting married. Bubble's translations have been having a lot of problems lately.”
However, some netizens felt that such mistranslations could easily cause misunderstandings and even demanded the original post be deleted, exclaiming, “At least learn some basic Korean, or delete this kind of misleading information.”
The entire incident was eventually confirmed to be a misunderstanding caused by a translation system error; Choi Yu-jin herself had not announced she would marry in 2027. What initially made fans' hearts skip a beat turned out to be a false alarm.
This translation blunder left many fans amused and bewildered, with some even quipping, “This kind of mistake is actually perfect for a new post, it's truly shocking!”
