Singer Kim Do-hyang Recalls Childhood Trauma: Father's Affairs, Mother's Tears
South Korean singer Kim Do-hyang (김도향), with 57 years in the industry, recently spoke candidly about a painful family history he had kept hidden for years. He recounted his childhood, marked by his father's prolonged infidelity, including instances where his father introduced mistresses as his "mother," leaving him with deep resentment. As he spoke of his mother's suffering during that time, his eyes welled up with tears.

MBN's program "Special World" (특종세상) released a new preview on the 10th, featuring "Singer Kim Do-hyang, 57 Years in the Industry." In the video, Kim Do-hyang admitted that he had always been hesitant to discuss his family's pain but finally gathered the courage to talk about his parents, marital relationships, parent-child dynamics, and the childhood memories that have haunted him for years.
During the episode, Kim Do-hyang discussed his complex feelings about not having visited his parents' graves for many years. While speaking calmly about the relationships between parents and children, and between spouses, he eventually couldn't suppress his emotions, and his eyes turned red. He remarked, "It seems whether the relationship between parents and children, or between spouses, is good or bad, it doesn't really matter. It must have been the same for them, too." As he spoke, he couldn't help but shed tears.
In an interview with the production team, Kim Do-hyang further recalled his childhood interactions with his father, stating, "I hated my father very much. I met about 50 women he introduced as, 'This is your mother.' He was involved with that many women outside the home."

His father's prolonged infidelity caused immense suffering for Kim Do-hyang's mother. He recalled the scene from those days, saying, "My mother was also in great pain, so she would cry alone at night. How could I possibly sleep when my mother was crying? That kind of life continued for a very long time."
Witnessing the conflicts between his parents and his mother's anguish from a young age left an indelible scar on Kim Do-hyang. Even after 57 years in entertainment, he has never forgotten those family memories, and this time, he finally chose to reveal the pain he had buried for so long.
Kim Do-hyang's long-held resentment towards his father, his heartache for his mother, and the story behind this complex family relationship will be fully revealed in the "Special World" episode airing on the 10th.
Kim Do-hyang officially debuted in 1970 as part of the duo Two Koreans (투코리언즈) with Son Jang-cheol (손장철), later pursuing a solo career. He rose to fame with his hit song "I Lived Like a Fool" (바보처럼 살았군요), which resonated with Koreans by expressing the regret and emptiness felt after a difficult life, becoming a comforting classic.
