Kim Dong-yoon (김동윤), a former member of the South Korean boy group SPECTRUM, passed away suddenly on July 27, 2018, at the age of 20. Eight years have passed since his death, but the rising star, who debuted just two months before his passing, remains unforgettable to many fans.

Kim first gained recognition in 2017 after participating in the JTBC survival show “MIXNINE.” With his outstanding skills and striking visuals, he ranked 21st in the male category, garnering significant fan support. In May 2018, he officially debuted as a member of the seven-member boy group SPECTRUM, releasing their first album, “Be Born,” with the title track “Light It Up.”

At their debut press conference, Kim expressed his aspirations, stating, “Through ‘MIXNINE,’ I’ve grown a lot. I hope to diligently study composition and create more great works with my members, so more people can get to know us.” Tragically, just two months after his official debut, news of his sudden passing shocked the Korean entertainment industry.

WYNN Entertainment, his agency at the time, released a statement via the official fan club: “The sudden tragic news has plunged his family, the SPECTRUM members, and all staff into immense grief. We are collectively mourning his passing.”

In accordance with his family’s wishes, Kim’s funeral was held privately. Although an autopsy was performed at the time to determine the exact cause of death, the official results have never been released, leaving the cause of death undisclosed to the public.

[CONFIRMED BY HERSELF] Sandara Park Shyly Reveals Her Fangirl Heart: "I Wanted to Date Each Click-B Member Once"

After his debut, Kim actively engaged with fans, even hosting a live broadcast on his personal account the day before his death. The sudden news the following day was devastating for his family, fans, and the public. His sister also posted on social media at the time, asking people to share their final messages for her brother and wishing him happiness in heaven, a post that deeply moved many.

To commemorate Kim, the SPECTRUM members released a tribute song, “Dear My,” in September of the same year. This song was one that Kim had helped create before his passing. Afterward, the members continued to preserve his vocal parts and stage positions in their performances, expressing their remembrance and respect for him.

However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the agency’s operations deteriorated, and SPECTRUM ultimately announced its disbandment in July 2020. The members have since pursued individual careers.

Among them, Jaehan, also a former SPECTRUM member, re-debuted as a member of the boy group OMEGA X after the group’s disbandment. During a previous appearance on the South Korean program “Syndrome,” he reportedly engaged in a “spiritual conversation” with his late friend through a shamanic ritual. In the program, the shaman, speaking as Kim Dong-yoon, told Jaehan: “Don’t get sick, and don’t be sad. I will protect you from above and make sure you have plenty of work. I will keep my promise.”

Upon hearing these words, Jaehan broke down emotionally, unable to hide his profound grief. While opinions vary on whether shamanic rituals can truly communicate with the deceased, many viewers were deeply moved by the scene, believing that for Jaehan, who had lost his close friend years ago, the ritual might have offered a measure of solace and a way to remember and say goodbye to his friend once more.

Sandara Park revisited her teenage confession about Click-B on a show, admitting she once wanted to date each member.
