Korean actor Julian Kang (줄리엔 강) recently discussed dating culture differences between Korea and Europe with a Turkish university student on a program. The student shared his personal experiences dating in Korea, stating directly that "Korean women expect a lot" and even hope their boyfriends treat them like princesses. Kang also expanded the conversation from dating culture to gender equality, sharing his own perspective.
Recently, Julian Kang's YouTube channel, "Julian Kang EN Kang Bro," released a video titled "How Do Foreigners View Korean Dating Culture? What Do They Find Charming About Koreans?" In the video, Julian Kang met with Alp, a university student from Turkey, to discuss Korean dating culture and gender relations.
During the program, Julian Kang first asked Alp, "Have you ever dated a Korean woman?" Alp replied, "Of course, there's a huge difference compared to Turkish women." Recalling his dating experiences in Korea, Alp stated, "Korean women expect a lot. I feel like I have to treat them like princesses."

Julian Kang, curious, pressed further: "Is that so? For example, what kinds of things?" Alp hesitated, saying, "People might get upset if I say this." Julian Kang quickly reassured him, "It's okay, I'll cut it out if it's too serious," encouraging him to continue sharing.
Alp then revealed that he once dated a Korean woman who always expected him to pay for dinner. "Because I'm the boyfriend, it's natural for me to pay. But in other countries, especially in Europe, the guy usually pays on the first date, and then next time, they might say, 'I'll treat dinner this time, so you treat coffee,' something like that."

Julian Kang responded with understanding: "You're still a student, so you probably feel that more strongly." He then asked, "What do you do in such situations?" To everyone's surprise, Alp laughed and replied, "I go to the restroom." His unexpected answer made everyone burst into laughter. Julian Kang also couldn't help but laugh, saying, "You use the 'go to the restroom' trick too?" He then advised him, "In such situations, don't rush to pay; just wait a bit."

Alp admitted that he didn't want to appear rude, so he usually ended up paying. "It's actually fine, I can accept it. But sometimes, it does feel a bit burdensome."
The two also discussed the differences in dating styles between Korean and Western cultures, moving from the topic of who should pay for dates. Beyond varying approaches to financial contributions, cultural backgrounds can also influence expectations for each other's roles in a romantic relationship.
Turning to the widely discussed topic of "gender equality" in society today, Julian Kang also shared his thoughts. He believes, "No one is superior; we are just different from each other." He further stated, "Women are better at some things than us, and we are better at some things. But this doesn't mean one is more important. To say one side is superior is actually to belittle the other, but that's not the truth. I believe both men and women are equally important."
Julian Kang also emphasized that abilities between men and women can indeed differ. "Some abilities men are naturally better at, and some things women do better than men," he said, adding that Koreans have certain differences in this regard compared to Western culture. "This is true not just in dating, but in overall culture as well."

Julian Kang married YouTuber Kim Yoo-jung (김유정) in May 2024, and their married life has frequently garnered public attention.
