YOUNG POSSE's Doeun Sparks 'Quiet Coming Out' Buzz After Revealing Female Muse for Love Song
The five-member South Korean girl group YOUNG POSSE (영파씨), which debuted in 2023, distinguishes itself from typical K-pop acts that often focus on innocent or 'girl crush' concepts. Known for their strong hip-hop influences, self-written raps, and active participation in songwriting, their music videos incorporate elements of American street culture, graffiti, and skateboarding. Despite not being from one of the 'Big Four' entertainment agencies, their distinctive musical style has garnered significant international attention, particularly in Western markets, establishing them as a recognizable new generation representative among fifth-generation girl groups.
YOUNG POSSE recently released their first mixtape, young tape, featuring 12 tracks, mostly performed as solos or by sub-units. During a YouTube segment where members shared behind-the-scenes stories about their songwriting process, member Doeun (도은) revealed an unexpected detail about her solo track "Need U." She disclosed that the romantic interest she had in mind while writing the song was a woman, immediately sparking fervent discussion among fans.
In the video, Doeun explained that "Need U" tells the story of inviting someone she likes to her studio, trying to impress them, and closing the distance between them. She shared with a laugh, "I had a very clear image in my head at the time, of inviting someone I liked to my studio... Hmm, maybe that person was a girl? Anyway, I brought her to my workspace, and then I wanted to act cool and charming in front of her, trying to pursue her."

She also revealed that the lyrics include lines like, "What if someone sees us walking together?" and "Then let's pretend we don't know each other." She cleverly adapted dialogue from the animated series Pat & Mat, adding a playful touch to the song.
