Hong Min-ki's Ex-Girlfriend Hospitalized in ICU After Overdosing; Brother Cites 'Poor Condition'
The ongoing dispute between South Korean actor Hong Min-ki and his ex-girlfriend, influencer 'A,' has taken a new turn. A, who previously accused Hong of dating violence and forced abortion, was reportedly hospitalized after an overdose and is currently receiving treatment.
A's older brother, identified as 'B,' posted on his sister's social media account, stating he was speaking on her behalf due to her poor health. He revealed that in the early hours of Sunday, August 23, A was found after taking an overdose of medication, including sleeping pills. He attributed this to accumulated grievances and the shock of a situation difficult for an ordinary person to bear, leading to her emergency hospitalization.
B also strongly denied media reports that A had "caused a disturbance and then went to the police station to give a statement," emphasizing that such claims were "not true."
B further disclosed that A remained unconscious after being admitted to the emergency room until the early hours of August 25, during which time she was in the intensive care unit. She regained consciousness on August 25 and her condition improved to the point where she could communicate, but she still requires treatment and rest due to severe psychological trauma. He pleaded with the public to refrain from speculative comments to aid his sister's recovery.
However, earlier media reports indicated that A had gone to Hong Min-ki's residence in Yongsan District, Seoul, on August 23 and caused a disturbance. Residents reportedly called the police, who arrived at the scene, and both parties subsequently went to the police station to provide statements.
Fable Company, Hong Min-ki's agency, had previously confirmed these reports, acknowledging that A had indeed gone to Hong's residence and caused a disturbance on that day.
Despite this, B, claiming to be A's brother, stated that his sister was hospitalized in the ICU due to an overdose. The conflicting accounts from Hong Min-ki's side and A's side regarding the events of that day have created a new round of disputes over the truth.
A began making accusations on social media platforms starting August 19, alleging dating violence during her relationship with Hong Min-ki. She also claimed that she became pregnant during their relationship and that Hong had demanded, and even forced, her to undergo an abortion. She publicly shared an ultrasound photo at the time, drawing significant public attention.
In response, Hong Min-ki's agency issued a statement refuting all claims, asserting that A's statements were untrue and that Hong had never said anything with the intent to "suggest or force an abortion." Furthermore, Hong's agency stated that they only saw the ultrasound photo A released for the first time on August 19.
As both sides continue to present conflicting narratives, the controversy has escalated. Hong Min-ki's side announced that they would initiate civil and criminal legal proceedings based on the information they have. A's side, meanwhile, stated that they would no longer make disclosures via social media but would formally proceed with legal action.
The incident, which began with allegations of dating violence and abortion, has now expanded to include a disturbance at Hong Min-ki's residence and A's hospitalization. The significant discrepancies in the accounts from both parties mean that subsequent legal proceedings and evidence will be closely watched.
Hong Min-ki, a rising actor who has appeared in works such as 'The Bad Guys,' 'The Good Thief,' and 'Hospital Ship,' was nominated for Best New Actor in the TV category at the Baeksang Arts Awards this May. His burgeoning career has been impacted by the recent accusations of dating violence from his ex-girlfriend, influencer A.
