Kim Sook's Revelation About 'Big-Name' Celebrity's True Character Sparks Online Speculation

South Korean comedian Kim Sook (김숙) recently recounted an encounter with a well-known celebrity on a television program, unexpectedly revealing that the individual had a "truly terrible real personality" and even stating their "true nature was disgusting." The person she described had experienced a decline in popularity before making a comeback. After the video aired, the discussion evolved from a simple personal anecdote into a public guessing game, with some netizens even naming specific prominent hosts. As Kim Sook never disclosed the celebrity's name, these speculations have raised concerns that innocent individuals could be unfairly drawn into rumors.

Kim Sook shared her past experience anonymously, but some online communities began attempting to identify the individual based on the clues she provided. Some even directly linked specific celebrities to her revelation, discussing it with near-certainty.

On June 1, Kim Sook spoke with psychiatrist Lee Kwang-min (이광민) on the YouTube channel "VIVO TV." While discussing "human nature" and emotional control, she brought up an encounter with a top-tier celebrity. She recalled, "There was a really famous celebrity in the past." However, she found the person's personality at the time very off-putting, deliberately keeping her distance. She couldn't help but think to herself, "That person's true nature is really terrible."

Kim Sook continued, explaining that as the celebrity's popularity gradually declined, the opinions of those around them seemed to change. She recalled, "Popularity can't last forever, so their popularity dropped. But at that time, they suddenly became very friendly." Even people around her told her, "They've changed; after their popularity dropped, even their personality changed."

However, Kim Sook did not believe this at the time. She admitted, "I didn't believe it. I thought that was just their true nature, just inherently mean." Unexpectedly, the celebrity's popularity later rebounded, and the attitudes of those around them changed again. Kim Sook stated, "Later, they became popular again, and everyone came back to me and said, 'Sook, you were right back then, their true nature has resurfaced.'"

After hearing the story, the doctor jokingly remarked, "That's why there's the saying, 'It's easier to change rivers and mountains than to change one's nature.'" Song Eun-yi (송은이), who was also present, laughed and added, "Doctor, are you trying to change people?"
