Former SECHSKIES Member Ko Ji-yong Reveals Divorce After Two-Year Secrecy to Protect Son

Ko Ji-yong (고지용), a member of the first-generation K-pop group SECHSKIES, personally announced on Instagram on December 29 that he had divorced his wife two years ago. He stated that he kept the news private to protect his son, a revelation that has surprised many.

Ko explained that he and his ex-wife ended their marriage two years ago. The decision to delay the public announcement was made to allow their son, Seung-jae (승재), sufficient time to understand the changes in his parents' relationship and to grow up in a stable environment. Therefore, they chose to handle the matter discreetly.

In his statement, Ko wrote, "Hello, this is Ko Ji-yong. I divorced my wife two years ago. I kept it private because I wanted my son, Seung-jae, to have enough time to accept this and grow up in a stable environment."

Ko revealed that the divorce was a mutual decision made after extensive discussion, respecting each other's life choices and fulfilling their responsibilities as adults. He noted that Seung-jae now understands his parents' current relationship, has adapted well, and is living a stable life.

Although they are no longer married, the two maintain a good relationship, supporting each other and co-parenting their child. He emphasized that he will continue to do his best as a father and asked the public not to speculate or inquire excessively about their private lives, hoping for a warm perspective on his family.

Furthermore, Ko Ji-yong's agency issued a statement, clarifying that the sole reason for his decision to disclose the divorce was to protect his child, not due to any other hidden circumstances. The agency requested that the public refrain from malicious speculation. They also stated that if false rumors or malicious gossip targeting his family continue, the company will take legal action to protect their rights.
