Pinterest Enhances Personalization with AI Beauty Guides
Pinterest has unveiled a new 'Beauty Guide' feature designed to help users apply beauty ideas to real life. According to Cosmetics Business, a 'Get the Guide' option has been added to inspiring images across hair, makeup, and nails, providing instructions on how to achieve the look, styles to request at a salon, purchasable products, and step-by-step guidance. Matt Madrigal, Pinterest's Chief Product and Technology Officer, stated, “People come to Pinterest to see looks they love and we’re using our visual understanding technology and AI to help them understand how to make those looks their own.” This feature will be available to iOS users in the US starting October 8, with plans for expansion to other regions in the future.
Pinterest also released its first-ever beauty trend report in collaboration with Sephora. More than 85% of Pinterest users discover new beauty trends on the platform before anywhere else. Key trends include maximalist makeup, pink hair, and frosted finishes. Notably, searches for 'full beat makeup look' increased by 460%, '2000s club makeup' by 184%, and 'bold lip combo' by 121%. Interest in eyelashes also surged, with 'cluster lash ideas' up by 646% and 'Korean lash lift' by 436%.

The Evolution of Clean Beauty: Sophorolipids in Natural Toothpaste
The clean beauty trend is expanding beyond skincare and haircare to include oral care products. According to Cosmetics Business, Silverson and Holiferm explored the development of natural toothpaste formulations using Holiferm's natural biosurfactant, sophorolipids, at their R&D laboratory in Manchester. They confirmed that sophorolipids can support anti-biofilm performance, preventing bacteria from adhering to tooth surfaces, dissolve active ingredients like peppermint oil, and provide the foaming effect consumers expect.
“Silica typically remains agglomerated within a formulation, but using a Silverson mixer, we can pass it through and make it smooth and prepare the toothpaste much faster.”
Specifically, high-shear mixing technology was utilized to address one of the most complex challenges in toothpaste formulation: silica dispersion. Clarissa Clark, a Silverson Application Scientist, explained that high-shear mixers break down silica agglomerates and disperse them uniformly. Furthermore, mixer technology that draws the product from the bottom of the vessel was employed to minimize aeration, a common issue in highly viscous products. James Cardus, Silverson Technical Sales Engineer, commented, "It’s amazing. There’s no aeration at all. Very viscous formulations can entrain a lot of air, and this mixer draws the product from the bottom of the vessel, avoiding drawing in a lot of air from the surface.”
As demonstrated, the K-Beauty market is continuously evolving through expanded accessibility on global platforms like Amazon, the introduction of AI-powered personalization services from Pinterest, and successful global expansion stories from brands like Monday Haircare. Moreover, the development of innovative ingredients such as sophorolipids will drive the clean beauty trend and serve as a key engine for K-Beauty's sustained growth.
