Former Idol Park Hyun-ho Reveals Past Suicidal Thoughts, Finds Strength in Wife Eun Ga-eun's Support

Former South Korean idol Park Hyun-ho (박현호) recently made a rare confession on KBS 2TV's variety show “Mr. House Husband Season 2,” revealing the depths of his past career struggles. He admitted to feeling so lost and without a future that he contemplated suicide by jumping from a building. Now, with the unwavering support of his wife, Eun Ga-eun (은가은), he continues to chase his dream of becoming a singer, actively seeking opportunities to return to the stage.

The latest episode, which aired on the 22nd, focused on Park Hyun-ho's efforts to establish himself as a singer, alongside his wife Eun Ga-eun, who manages household chores and childcare.

Compared to his busy wife, Park Hyun-ho, who has had very few entertainment engagements recently, appeared visibly downcast. Despite his mood, he proactively helps with household duties, supporting Eun Ga-eun as she juggles childcare and chores. Reflecting on his past career, Park Hyun-ho said, "I used to be Park Hyun-ho, someone everyone recognized on the street."

He revealed that he trained as an idol for three years and promoted for about three years after his debut. "When my idol career didn't succeed, many other places still sought me out, so I thought, 'I can try again.' But I never achieved significant success, and eventually, I started to feel that perhaps the entertainment industry wasn't for me at all."

Park Hyun-ho previously promoted under the stage name Seogoong as a member of the boy group TOPP DOGG. When the group's success fell short of expectations, he later joined UnderDogg and also attempted a solo career under the name I'M. After multiple unsuccessful attempts, he temporarily abandoned his dream of becoming a singer and enlisted in the military. Upon his discharge, he transitioned to trot music, performing on nearly every available stage in hopes of reintroducing himself to the public.

Actress Lee Hwi-hyang Recalls Early Marriage to Gang Boss, His Support for Her Return to Acting

Veteran South Korean actress Lee Hwi-hyang (이휘향) recently shared her love story with her late husband, Kim Doo-jo, who was 19 years her senior and had a past linked to organized crime. She revealed that she married just six months into her debut, putting her acting career on hold, and only returned to the stage with his full encouragement.

Despite his efforts, his entertainment career showed no significant improvement. Park Hyun-ho confessed that he fell into extreme despair during that period, even attempting to jump from a window. He recalled, "At that time, I felt like the world didn't like me. But my mother saw me and stopped me. I've always felt like an unfilial son."

Having endured that dark period, Park Hyun-ho has not given up. He stated, "Now, I live my life more diligently than anyone else." To gain more recognition, he personally promotes himself at highway rest stops, on tourist buses, and in singing classrooms, actively seeking performance opportunities.

The program's final stop was a singing classroom, where Park Hyun-ho was enthusiastically promoting himself when his wife, Eun Ga-eun, appeared with their child. Speaking about her husband, Eun Ga-eun said, "He is a very kind and pure person. He gives almost all his earnings to the family, dotes on our daughter, always puts his family first." She sincerely encouraged her husband, adding, "I hope my husband succeeds."

In response to his wife's support, Park Hyun-ho admitted that a significant part of his strength to persevere comes from his family. "Recently, because of my family, I've found strength. Since meeting Ga-eun, I've also had more opportunities for people to get to know me. I'm truly grateful to my wife."

During her interview, Eun Ga-eun revealed that her husband experienced many hardships and setbacks from his early days as an idol. She feels a pang of sympathy whenever he says things like, "I'm only here today because of Eun Ga-eun," or "I became famous thanks to Eun Ga-eun." She explained, "He always says things he doesn't need to say, constantly putting himself down. Every time I see him like that, it makes me sad, because he is not someone who needs pity."

Eun Ga-eun also expressed her confidence in her husband's future. "Although he doesn't receive many invitations now, I hope that one day, my husband will be so successful that he'll tell me, 'I don't even have time to see you once this week.'" She concluded firmly, "I believe he will become that kind of singer."

From the disappointments of his idol group days to hitting rock bottom, and now tirelessly working to return to the stage, Park Hyun-ho continues to pursue his singing dream. His wife, Eun Ga-eun, remains by his side, serving as a crucial source of strength for his renewed determination.

Eun Ga-eun is a South Korean trot singer whose popularity surged after participating in 'Miss Trot 2.' Park Hyun-ho, who is five years her junior, debuted as an idol before transitioning to the trot music scene. Their relationship as an older woman-younger man couple has garnered significant attention. The two met on the KBS 2TV music program 'Immortal Songs,' gradually developed from friends to lovers, and eventually married.
