UNIS, an eight-member project girl group, was formed through the SBS audition program “Universe Ticket” and officially debuted in March 2024. The group was set for a two-and-a-half-year run. Its members hail from various countries, making UNIS the first K-pop girl group to include a Filipino member.
UNIS recently announced its impending disbandment, with members preparing for their next steps. Gehlee (젤리), the group's Filipino center, has already departed Korea to return home and continue her career. Her emotional farewell at Incheon International Airport, captured in photos and videos, moved many fans to tears.
On September 21, UNIS announced the release of their digital single “Milky Way,” which will serve as the group's final release before disbandment. As the group concludes its activities, several members are expected to leave Korea, at least temporarily, to return to their home countries and prepare for the next phase of their entertainment careers.
Gehlee has confirmed her return to the Philippines, where she will collaborate with Universal Records, GLXY Talent Management, and Star Horizon TV to officially launch her entertainment career in her home country.
On September 29, Gehlee appeared at Incheon International Airport to board her flight to the Philippines, marking what will be the last opportunity for fans to see her in Korea for some time.
Before her departure, Gehlee interacted with fans who came to see her off. She waved goodbye warmly and shared two consecutive hugs with one fan who appeared particularly close to her, creating a deeply emotional atmosphere at the airport.
After the footage was released, many fans expressed their mixed feelings of emotion and sadness, noting how rare it is to see an idol respond to fans with such genuine sincerity. One fan wrote emotionally, “It’s truly touching to see an idol genuinely and proactively hug a fan before leaving the country.”
Others sent Gehlee their blessings, with one commenting, “Gehlee is truly one of a kind; you can see her sincerity. I hope many more wonderful opportunities find you in the future. We will always cheer for you.” Another fan lamented, “Her eyes never lie,” adding crying emojis to convey their deep regret.
Gehlee has safely arrived in the Philippines and is now set to officially embark on a new chapter of her entertainment career.
