Xdinary Heroes’ Gunil leaves group after online allegations over private remarks

Gunil (건일), a member of the Korean band Xdinary Heroes (XH), has abruptly left the group. JYP Entertainment announced Aug. 13 that Gunil would depart the band, a day after online allegations claimed he had repeatedly insulted fans in private and may have criticized fellow members behind their backs. The agency said both sides had agreed to terminate his exclusive contract, and the group will continue as a five-member act.

In an official statement released that afternoon, JYP Entertainment said, “Regarding recent matters related to member Gunil, the company fully recognizes the seriousness of the situation and held extensive discussions with the artist from multiple perspectives.” After those talks, the company said it determined it would be difficult for the two sides to continue group activities together and decided, by mutual agreement, to terminate his exclusive contract.

The agency also said, “Gunil will leave Xdinary Heroes as of today, the 13th, and end his group activities. We sincerely apologize for causing fans concern with this sudden news.”

With Gunil’s departure, Xdinary Heroes will be reorganized as a five-member lineup consisting of Jungsu, Gaon, O.de, Jun Han and Jooyeon. JYP Entertainment said it would continue to provide support across all areas so the members can focus steadily on their music activities.

The departure has drawn particular attention because an anonymous post appeared the previous day in an online community on the South Korean portal Daum. A user who claimed to have dated Gunil alleged that his private persona differed sharply from his public image and claimed he often made abusive remarks about fans.
