Korean YouTuber "Needmorecash" (닛몰캐쉬), whose real name is Cha Cheong-il (차청일), a former BTS backup dancer with approximately 540,000 subscribers, has been accused of dating violence by an ex-girlfriend. The former girlfriend released a detailed statement and audio recordings, alleging prolonged verbal abuse, threats, and even physical altercations during their relationship. Following the revelations, all videos on his YouTube channel were made private, and his personal social media accounts temporarily disappeared. His agency has since confirmed that "a significant portion" of the ex-girlfriend's allegations are true, fueling the ongoing controversy.
The incident came to light on September 29 when a woman, identified as 'A' and claiming to be Needmorecash's ex-girlfriend, posted a lengthy article and audio recordings on social media, detailing their past relationship. 'A' stated that Needmorecash's cheerful and humorous persona in his videos was vastly different from his true private self. She felt she could no longer remain silent and decided to reveal what happened during their time together.
In the exposed audio recordings, a male voice can be heard continuously cursing at a woman, presumably his ex-girlfriend, and questioning her with statements like: "What exactly did I do wrong to you? Today I spent 400,000 Korean won." and "Answer me, why do I have to look like a criminal in front of those people?"
The man then continued to verbally abuse the woman in a highly aggressive tone, making derogatory remarks about her friends and people with disabilities. Throughout the entire conversation, he can be heard repeatedly scolding her with vulgar language.
'A' further alleged that, in addition to the situations captured in the recordings, after they had been drinking, she was subjected to prolonged verbal abuse. She claimed he also threw objects and engaged in physically threatening behavior, such as pushing her shoulders and forehead. She also revealed that he had made disparaging comments about specific regions and children with disabilities, and even criticized his own fans, saying things like, "They're already that old, and they still don't know what everyone's doing."
Anticipating potential controversy, 'A' emphasized, "I don't know how he or his company will respond, but what I have disclosed is absolutely not exaggerated or false." She also clarified that other creators mentioned in the recording were not involved in the incident, stating, "They were only mentioned in the recording because we were eating together at the time. I hope they are not implicated because of this."
Although 'A' did not directly name Needmorecash in her exposé, after the news broke, netizens quickly identified him based on the voice in the recordings and subsequent changes to his social media accounts.
Following the allegations, Needmorecash's YouTube channel showed clear abnormalities. All previously public videos and posts were made private, and his profile picture was changed from his own photo to a black image. His personal social media and TikTok accounts are currently also difficult to access.
Subsequently, his agency, NOB Entertainment, confirmed that Needmorecash was indeed the individual in the allegations. The agency stated that after an internal review of the content, they found that "a significant portion" of the accusations made by 'A' were true.
With the agency confirming parts of the allegations, public attention is now focused on whether Needmorecash himself will respond and how he will address the entire incident.
Needmorecash, whose real name is Cha Cheong-il, previously worked as a backup dancer for BTS on stage. He later transitioned into a short-form video creator, gaining recognition through his exaggerated acting and situational comedy content.
Early in his career, he created content mimicking Chinese-style TikTok videos. He then went on to portray various characters, such as a Japanese manga butler and a rookie male idol. His distinct and exaggerated performance style quickly earned him popularity among younger audiences.
In 2024, he further boosted his profile by forming an ASMR duo with comedian Kim Kyung-wook's (김경욱) virtual character "Tanaka," releasing the song "Good Night, My Lady." The track reached No. 2 on TikTok's "2024 Korea Hot Songs" list, and the duo also performed together on music shows.
Just as Needmorecash was expanding his activities from YouTube and short-form videos into television and music, this private life controversy erupted, impacting the humorous and friendly image he had built.
Furthermore, a web drama starring Needmorecash, produced by the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly, was scheduled for release in approximately 10 days. With the ongoing allegations, there is now concern about whether this project and his future schedule will be affected.
