Former Brave Girls Member Nam Yu-jeong to Perform at Waterbomb, Sparks Debate Over Song Choices
Nam Yu-jeong (남유정), a former member of Brave Girls (now BBGIRLS), is set to perform for the first time at South Korea's premier summer music event, Waterbomb, following her transition to acting. However, the news has unexpectedly drawn mixed reactions, with many fans expressing concern over her lack of solo material and wondering, “What will she even sing?” This has also fueled intense discussion about whether she will perform Brave Girls' songs.
Yu-jeong is confirmed to appear at 'WATERBOMB SOKCHO 2026' on August 22, held at Hanwha Resort Seorak Sorano in Sokcho, Gangwon Province. This marks her first invitation to Waterbomb since her debut. Her agency stated that through this performance, she aims to break away from her previous bright and healthy image, appearing on stage as a new 'Summer Muse.'
Yu-jeong has always been beloved by fans for her cheerful and friendly demeanor. This time, in addition to her signature charm, she is expected to showcase a more mature side rarely seen before, leading many to anticipate a different kind of performance.
However, discussions online have been polarized since the performance announcement. Many Brave Girls fans commented, “She's transitioned to acting, so what will she sing?” and “Waterbomb is all about stage performance, but she doesn't have solo songs, so it feels like it'll be hard for her to carry the whole show.” Other comments included, “Can she still sing Brave Girls' songs?” and “'Rollin'' is still BBGIRLS' signature song; wouldn't it be awkward if she sang it?” and “She's already left the group, so if she performs group songs alone, it doesn't seem appropriate.” These comments highlight significant questions about her song choices and stage arrangements.

Some netizens argued that the issue isn't her departure from the group, but rather that BBGIRLS is still actively promoting. If Yu-jeong performs group songs alone, it could inevitably stir controversy. Comments included: “The problem isn't that her contract expired and she left, but that the group is still active. If she's the only one performing with group songs, she'll definitely get criticized.” “If you're a fan, seeing a former member sing group songs must feel unpleasant.” “As long as she doesn't sing group songs, there's nothing to say if the reaction isn't good.” “She also previously said she wouldn't promote as a solo singer, so it would be strange if she suddenly brought new songs to Waterbomb, and singing group songs is also strange. I really can't guess what she'll perform.”
However, many netizens also supported Yu-jeong, believing she has extensive stage experience. “Waterbomb is all about the atmosphere and performance; as long as she shows her charm, that's enough.” “I believe she will bring a different side.” “Brave Girls finally rose to fame with 'Rollin'' but ultimately missed out on further opportunities. I don't think Yu-jeong did anything wrong.” Some even suggested, “The future of a group is always uncertain; forcing her to stay would be too cruel.”

Brave Girls debuted in 2011 and achieved viral success in 2021 with 'Rollin',' creating a K-pop 'reverse run' phenomenon. In 2023, Minyoung (민영), Eunji (은지), and Yuna (유나) re-debuted under the new group name BBGIRLS. Yu-jeong officially left the group in 2024 to transition into acting. Currently, BBGIRLS promotes as a three-member group with Minyoung, Eunji, and Yuna, recently releasing their new single 'BODY WAVE' for their summer promotions.
In recent years, Yu-jeong has actively expanded her entertainment career. She has appeared on KBS 2TV's debate survival variety show 'The Logic' and hosted several variety programs, showcasing her stable hosting skills. Additionally, she challenged herself with acting in the TVING original short drama 'A Man Who Never Even Once,' continuing her path toward becoming an actress.
