A woman identified only as A, who previously accused South Korean actor Hwang Jung-min (황정민), 56, of having an affair, is facing fresh controversy. Korean media reported that she not only continued making various allegations against Hwang but also sent a direct message on social media to Hwang’s son when he was still a minor, further escalating the dispute.

According to a report by Korean outlet Ilgan Sports on the 29th, A sent a social media DM to Hwang’s son, who was born in 2006 and was underage at the time, while she was publicly clashing with Hwang’s agency, SAM Company.

In addition to claiming she and Hwang had an extramarital affair, A told the media that the two had jointly run a private blog. She said that among the more than 100 posts she wrote on the blog, 10 were leaked, including 2 short stories she had submitted to literary awards.

A said she tried to ask Hwang and his agency why the posts were leaked but was ignored and had her contact methods blocked. She said that was why she sent a DM to Hwang’s son, hoping he would help relay the message.

Responding to criticism that she had harassed an underage family member, A said, “This was not a threat, nor was it an attempt to disclose anything. After the agency warned me, all normal channels of communication were cut off, so I only asked (Hwang Jung-min’s son) to help pass along the message.”

SAM Company, Hwang’s agency, strongly denied all of A’s claims, calling her “a suspect in a stalking crime who has harassed Hwang Jung-min for a long time.”

The agency said Hwang had already filed a criminal complaint against A, and that a court had issued temporary protective orders against her 3 times, including orders barring her from approaching him. It said the court found the case involved stalking and eventually issued a summary order fining her 3 million won on a stalking charge.

The latest controversy began after A posted several allegation-filled messages on social media on the 29th. She uploaded recordings, photos and conversation screenshots purportedly involving Hwang, and accused him of maintaining contact with her over a long period and even asking to meet while he was filming.

A’s DM to Hwang’s then-underage son also sparked heated discussion in Korea, with many online commenters saying the move crossed a line. Comments included: “Why contact someone’s son? He was still a minor,” “Contacting his son is really too much. What exactly was she trying to do by telling a child these things?” “What would a minor understand? Why contact him at all? This is really crazy,” “Why contact an underage son? This is something the people involved should resolve themselves,” “Why do this to a child? This really goes too far,” “His son was still a minor at the time and had nothing to do with the whole matter, so why DM him? Isn’t this something the parties themselves should handle?” “No wonder she was sued for stalking. Sigh, just resolve it properly in court,” and “If this causes problems for the movie, she may end up having to pay a huge amount of money. What is she doing? And why contact someone’s son?”

Some commenters, however, directed their criticism at Hwang, saying that if the affair allegations are true, he also bears responsibility. Comments included: “That’s what happens when you have an affair. He brought this on himself. If he was really worried about negatively affecting his son, he shouldn’t have had an affair in the first place,” “If he could successfully ruin the affair partner’s reputation, Hwang Jung-min could even be recast as a ‘pitiful Korean man deceived by a scheming woman,’ which would actually benefit him more. But now it looks impossible. Good luck to both of them,” “If my dad’s affair partner contacted me, I would probably go question my dad directly, and I would tell my mom to divorce him,” “You don’t know how to keep boundaries yourself, but you expect others to follow the rules? You say both people are the same, yet you only keep going after the other person,” and “This is really crazy. So many people depend on one movie for their livelihoods, but private grudges have turned it into this. Can the two of you please resolve it yourselves?”

Hwang married Kim Mi-hye (김미혜), a former musical actress who is now the head of SAM Company, in 2004. The couple have one son and one daughter, and the family has kept a notably low profile.
