Jeon Wook-min (전욱민), 38, the younger brother of South Korean actress Jeon So-min (전소민), 40, has recently been actively sharing updates on his personal Instagram. His frequent mentions of his sister have garnered unexpected public attention, even leading to offers from the entertainment industry. Now, he has once again opened up, candidly discussing a low point in his life, revealing that he fell into depression after a business failure and felt his life was "a complete failure," unwilling to face reality. He has since decided to let go of the past and start anew, sharing the catalyst for this turning point.
On September 27, Jeon Wook-min posted on social media, citing South Korean depression statistics: "In Korea, approximately one in 13 people experiences depression at least once in their lifetime. Around 15,000 people end their lives each year, which means over 40 people every day."
He also released a video in which he confessed, "I used to have depression. My business failed, and I felt my life had also failed. I didn't want to face reality, so I labeled myself with 'depression.'" Jeon Wook-min then recalled a day when his youngest and most cherished brother told him, "Hyung (older brother), you're not cool like this at all." He was so angry at the time that he immediately turned and left for home.
However, reflecting on it later, he realized that he was truly angry at himself. "I had been running away, but deep down, I already knew. I saw reality, and in that life I had pushed away with various excuses, I was actually hurting even more deeply."
After experiencing this low point, Jeon Wook-min decided to make a change. He revealed that he quit alcohol and stopped taking medication, then began working in food delivery, gradually rebuilding his life.
He also mentioned that after making his video public, he received many comments from netizens, with some even criticizing him, saying, "Don't pretend you're struggling and working hard." He stated that he doesn't care what others think. "I don't care what they think of me; I have nothing left to lose anyway. I will keep going until one day, I finally have something worth losing."
In addition to discussing his life's low point, Jeon Wook-min also revealed that after he started posting videos on social media, he began receiving contact from reporters, TV stations, film companies, and brands. "At first, I was happy, thinking, 'Could this finally be my chance?'" But after actually speaking with them, he found that most situations were similar.
He admitted that what interested them was not "Jeon Wook-min the person," but rather his identity as "Jeon So-min's brother." Jeon Wook-min expressed his frustration, stating that most of the contacts he received ultimately hoped to learn about his sister Jeon So-min's story through him, rather than simply wanting to get to know or collaborate with him personally.
These experiences made him deeply realize that despite his efforts to restart his life, much of the public's attention on him is still based on his identity as "Jeon So-min's brother."
