YouTuber Park Wi (박위), the husband of former Secret member Song Ji-eun (송지은), recently came under fire after releasing CCTV footage of a KTX fall accident. As the controversy continued, internet users claiming to be his high school classmates alleged online that Park may have been involved in school violence as a student and was even sent to a juvenile detention center, drawing public attention. The backlash has now spread to his family, with Park’s mother also becoming the target of hostile comments online.

Park Wi and Song Ji-eun, a member of the girl group Secret, married in October 2024. Before the wedding, Song appeared on MBC’s “Radio Star” in May of the same year and shared a moving story about spending time with Park’s mother.

Song said that while Park was away on a business trip, she contacted his mother in an effort to grow closer to her. Park’s mother warmly welcomed her and even let her sleep in Park’s room. Song recalled, “After I went into the room, I saw a pretty lace nightgown on the bed, and I was really moved.”

She added that after seeing how happy she was, Park’s mother brought out clothes she liked to wear and let Song choose pieces to take with her. “I later wore the clothes I had picked out to catch the bouquet. To me, they were very meaningful clothes,” Song said.

What was originally a warm anecdote from Song about her close relationship with her mother-in-law has resurfaced amid the recent controversies surrounding Park. The 2-year-old program clip has drawn a wave of negative comments, with even the mother-in-law’s “thoughtful gesture” becoming a target of criticism.

Park recently sparked controversy after publicly disclosing a social service worker’s mistake in the KTX accident. As the issue escalated, online users began revisiting his past remarks and behavior, and criticism continued to grow, with his family also being pulled into the fallout. After renewed attention on his younger brother’s controversial “excrement speech” at the wedding, Park’s mother — Song’s mother-in-law — has now become a target of online criticism.

Recently, some internet users left comments under the old video questioning Park’s mother for giving Song clothes she had already worn, with some saying she should have taken Song directly to a department store to buy new clothes instead.

One internet user wrote sarcastically, “She should have taken her straight to a department store the next day and let her buy whatever she wanted, and even that wouldn’t have been enough,” while others commented, “Giving her worn clothes? And they’re from different generations — she was actually moved by that?” “Calling a woman to sleep at the house before marriage, preparing used pajamas, and then giving her a bunch of old clothes. If she were my daughter, my heart would really break,” and “If she really liked her daughter-in-law that much, she should have bought her new clothes. I can’t believe she gave old clothes she had worn to a woman who wasn’t even married yet.”

Others also criticized the gesture, saying, “If she truly cared for her, she should have just given her money to buy things herself. Didn’t they say the family is well-off? Taking her to a department store and letting her pick out a few things still wouldn’t have been enough,” “Would he be happy if his father-in-law gave him clothes he had worn? They’re treating the daughter-in-law like someone easy to push around,” and “Did the future mother-in-law have nothing else to give, so she gave her old clothes?”

Other comments included, “Did she not want to take her to a department store to buy pretty clothes? At least she could have let her choose for herself. Wouldn’t you feel embarrassed giving someone clothes you’ve already worn?” and “If it were me, I would never give worn clothes to my son’s girlfriend or future daughter-in-law.”

At the same time, Park’s school years have also become a focus of public attention. Recently, several internet users claiming to be Park’s high school classmates came forward with allegations, saying he “returned to school after leaving a juvenile detention center.” One person also claimed that Park caused them an injury in their second year of high school that required 4 weeks of treatment, fueling discussion online.

However, some internet users defended Park, saying, “Park Wi is absolutely not the kind of friend who would be involved in school violence or bullying,” and argued that the school violence allegations circulating online are not true.

What began with the social service worker incident has now expanded from criticism of the accident itself to scrutiny of Park’s past and even his family. A warm memory Song Ji-eun once publicly shared while praising her mother-in-law has now unexpectedly become a subject of online attacks and ridicule.
