Sung Hoon Reflects on Past Controversies, Life Lessons: 'Be More Careful When Things Go Well'

Korean actor Sung Hoon (성훈) has been engaging with fans through YouTube, and in his latest video, he shared his reflections on life. Having experienced a temporary decline in his acting career due to a past "rudeness controversy" on a broadcast, he candidly expressed that if he could return to the past with his current memories, he would likely choose a more mature and wiser approach to life.

On May 19, Sung Hoon uploaded a new video to his personal YouTube channel titled "The Hardest Times in Life." In the video, he shared his perspective on life while fishing, drawing parallels between fishing and life itself. "Some things you can't achieve with just your own strength, and that's a lot like life," he stated. "No matter how hard you try, sometimes things just don't work out. In life, you'll inevitably encounter difficult situations that are beyond your control."

Sung Hoon also admitted that while some difficulties in life can be overcome with effort, there are times when even with the help of others and personal perseverance, it's impossible to immediately escape a slump. "Sometimes you face situations that you can't overcome even with the help of those around you. In those moments, letting time pass might be a valid approach," he said.

Reflecting on his journey, Sung Hoon expressed that if he could go back in time with his current memories, he would approach life differently. "If I went back with my current memories, I think I would live smarter, wiser, and truly enjoy life, spending my time on things that make me happy," he shared.

Sung Hoon also revealed that past experiences taught him how to navigate life's downturns. "When I encounter such things now, I know, 'Ah, this is how I can overcome it.' And now I remind myself to be even more careful when things are going well." These remarks led many to recall the past controversies he was involved in.

Sung Hoon was a regular cast member on MBC's variety show "I Live Alone" and gained popularity for his natural and unpretentious personality. However, his behavior on tvN's "Queueing Restaurant" later sparked a "rudeness" controversy, which temporarily impacted his entertainment activities.

At the time, the show aired scenes of him expressing dissatisfaction while waiting for food and even wiping sweat during his meal, drawing criticism from some viewers. Sung Hoon's agency issued an apology, stating, "It was done for the sake of broadcast entertainment, and some parts were indeed overdone."

Now, Sung Hoon has reconnected with fans through TikTok and YouTube, and his entertainment activities are gradually recovering. He is set to appear in MBN's new drama "Boss's Naughty Preference."

Meanwhile, when comedian Park Na-rae (박나래) was embroiled in a "power trip and workplace bullying" controversy, her former manager alleged that she had engaged in inappropriate behavior with a man in the back seat of a car while the manager was driving, and had repeatedly kicked the driver's seat back, almost causing a traffic accident. These claims caused an uproar among the public.

As the incident escalated, a "misreporting scandal" involving Park Na-rae and Sung Hoon from 2023 resurfaced online. At the time, a KakaoTalk chat screenshot circulated on Korean online forums, with someone claiming that "Park Na-rae and Sung Hoon went to the hospital together" and even identifying themselves as a hospital insider. The screenshot contained extremely explicit and sexually demeaning descriptions, alleging that the two had engaged in sexual activity that led to an absurd situation, resulting in them being sent to the emergency room at Yonsei University Severance Hospital.

The content quickly caused an online sensation, and both individuals were unwittingly caught in the controversy. In fact, Park Na-rae and Sung Hoon had previously appeared together on MBC's "I Live Alone." Their interactions were natural, and they openly praised each other off-screen, leading many to believe they had "great chemistry" and fueling dating rumors for some time.

Notably, at the 2019 MBC Entertainment Awards, Sung Hoon adjusted Park Na-rae's long dress on the red carpet. Later, when Park Na-rae won the Grand Prize for "I Live Alone," Sung Hoon went on stage to hug and congratulate her, even shedding tears.
